All about Bridgerton Season 3!
Bridgerton is based on a Julia Quinn book series of eight books (plus numerous “epilogues”) that Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland productions adapted for Netflix. They follow the Bridgerton family as they look for marriage partners in Regency England’s high society, which includes widowed matriarch Violet (Ruth Gemmell) and her eight children.
As it followed the eldest daughter Daphne’s (Phoebe Dynevor) hunt for a marriage and her unexpected connection with the dashing Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), the first season, which debuted December 25, 2020, shattered Netflix watching records.
After that, Season 2 tackled the second novel in the series, focusing on eldest brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and the reckless Kate Sharma’s (Simone Ashley) enemies-to-lovers affair. However, it appears that Netflix has every intention of continuing this narrative far beyond these episodes.
As described in the third book, An Offer From a Gentleman, season three was expected to follow Benedict’s journey to marriage bliss; however, Variety announced on May 15 that this would not be the case. Instead, as Quinn did in the fourth novel, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, the show would jump ahead to examine Colin and Penelope’s romance in more detail.
At a Netflix panel event in Hollywood, Nicola Coughlan herself confirmed the information, saying, “I have kept that hidden since two weeks into season two.”
Who will the Bridgerton season 3 focus on?
According to Variety, Coughlan revealed during the FYSEE panel on May 15 that Penelope, a.k.a. Lady Whistledown, and Colin Bridgerton’s (Luke Newton) romance will be the main focus of Bridgerton season 3.
According to an official summary provided by Netflix:
“Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), after hearing Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) criticise her last season, has finally given up on her long-standing crush on him. However, she has decided it’s time to get married, ideally to a man who will give her enough freedom to continue living a double life as Lady Whistledown far from her mother and sisters.”
However, Colin is so full of self-assurance that he is ready to “guide Penelope in the arts of confidence to help her find a husband.” Actually, Colin makes a fantastic teacher. According to the press release, Colin “must decide whether his feelings for Penelope are actually just friendly” as his lessons begin to “work a bit too well.”
Bridgerton season 3 release date
Although it might be some time before the second season of Bridgerton appears on our screens, fans will be happy to learn that filming has already begun. Jonathan Bailey, Adjoa Andoh, Golda Rosheuvel, Claudia Jessie, and the rest of the cast could be seen returning to the set in a video shared by the show’s official Instagram account on July 20.
The scene closes with Nicola Coughlan announcing that “Bridgerton season three filming has officially begun” as Luke Newton opens the door to a carriage. An early 2023 delivery date is definitely feasible if everything goes according to plan.
Will Bridgerton cast return?
Many viewers may be unsure if Bailey, Ashley, and other new favourites will return for the third season after Page famously left Bridgerton at the end of his season 1 run, citing his finished arc and one-season commitment to the series.
Thankfully, Ashley told “Deadline” that Bailey and she both intend to take part. “We’ll be back soon! “Kate and Anthony are just getting started,” she said, adding, “I’d want to see Kate just let go a little bit more and play more in season 3 and kind of swim in that circle of love with Anthony. They both, in my opinion, deserve it.”
Other cast members, such as Penelope, Eloise, Colin, Benedict, and others, who haven’t yet pursued their own romantic relationships, are anticipated to make a comeback as well. Jessie stated she intends to continue playing Eloise “for as long as they’ll let me” in an interview with ELLE.com. “I plan to continue doing this until I’m forty.”
Bridgerton Season 3 New Cast Members
Daniel Francis, Sam Philips, and James Phoon will join the cast of Bridgerton season three, which is currently filming, according to a Netflix announcement made on July 20. As Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) moves past her long-standing crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), three more eligible bachelors enter the picture.
The streamer describes Daniel’s character, Marcus Anderson, as a “charismatic personality who lights up whatever place he enters, attracting the admiration of certain matriarchs in the town—and the ire of others.” Daniel will play Marcus Anderson.
Sam Philips, meanwhile, holds the title of Lord Debling and is described by Netflix as a friendly man with “strange interests.” Although he has cash and a high title to support his peculiarities, young women will be interested in him this season.
Harry Dankworth, who is portrayed by James Phoon, is the last. The streamer says that Dankworth “more than makes up for what he lacks in wit and knowledge with real gorgeous looks.”
The fact that Francesca Bridgerton has been recast may be the greatest casting development for season 3. Deadline reports that Hannah Dodd will now fill Ruby Stokes’ position since she has other filming obligations.
Is Regé-Jean Page coming back in bridgerton?
Sadly, no. The actor himself put the notion to bed on June 21 with an Instagram post after news quickly spread that Page will return to reprise his role as the Duke of Hastings. The description reads: “The boys are back in town.Jonathan Bailey and I are pictured in the photo (No, I’m not returning to the show; the media made that up.)
However, over some seriously top-notch Italian coffee and some sunshine, we had the greatest and most elegant catch up I’ve had in a while.”
How did Bridgerton Season 2 Ended up?
After eventually getting together at the Featherington Ball, Anthony and Kate appeared in the finale as content, PDA-loving newlyweds. BFFs Eloise and Penelope are at odds because Eloise finally learned the Lady Whistledown secret, but Penelope ultimately resolves that she won’t put down her pen for a very long time. Theo, the apprentice, and the intellectual also part ways because of a fear Penelope instils in Theo.
One of the other plots is Benedict dropping out of art school after learning Anthony was admitted thanks to a sizable donation. After briefly emerging as a hero by exposing Lord Featherington’s con, Colin breaks Penelope’s heart by informing his pals that he would never date her.
Kate’s mother Mary, sister Edwina, and sister Edwina will all remain in London. According to Queen Charlotte, Edwina may be paired up with Daphne’s season one suitor Prince Friedrich (Freddie Stroma), who Queen Charlotte mentioned might set up Edwina with.
