About The X Factor UK

Simon Cowell is the creator of the British reality television music competition The X Factor. It was produced by Fremantle’s Thames and Cowell’s Syco Entertainment for ITV and debuted on September 4 of 2004. Virgin Media One in Ireland also carried a simulcast of the show. Up until its final episode in December 2018, the show aired over 445 episodes throughout fifteen series, most of which were televised in the latter part of the year.

History of The X Factor UK

Simon Cowell, a Sony Music executive, created the format of the show in 2004. His participation as a judge on Pop Idol, another music talent show that ITV broadcast from 2001 to 2003, served as the inspiration for The X Factor. While the show had been extremely popular in its own right, Cowell disliked the lack of influence he and the other judges had over the contestant’s development. Many people, including fellow judge Pete Waterman, agreed with him that the winner of the second season of Pop Idol had been less deserving of the title than the other contestants.

Later, Cowell decided to create a new television competition for which he would hold the broadcast rights and thus have final say over all choices made regarding the new programme. In spite of a legal battle by Simon Fuller, the creator of Pop Idol, over perceived similarities between the two shows, ITV was given the green light to air The X Factor in 2004 after Cowell contacted them with his pitch.

Each year’s competition starts with a round of auditions, which consists of three stages and is held in locations throughout the United Kingdom many months before the series premiere. In certain series, The X Factor UK audition are also permitted in the Republic of Ireland.

The first round of the audition process involves candidates performing in front of the production team, either by appointment or at “open” auditions that are open to the public. A candidate that successfully completes this step advances to the next, where they do a performance in front of an experienced production member.

Those who advance to the third round of auditions perform for the judges for the competition, showcasing any singing talent they may have. Each contestant must receive a majority vote from the judges in order to advance to the next round; otherwise, they are automatically eliminated at this point. Typically, the judges themselves will make a comment regarding what they heard prior to casting their vote.
